Stuart Smith called the meeting to order at 12:30 PM.
2. Approval of past minutes (from April 5 and April 24, 2007 meetings) (Stuart Smith)
A motion to approve was made and seconded, then passed on a voice vote.

The budget for 2007 is not ready yet. But the Dean reminded that the legislature did mandate $1 million cuts. Also added the following budget related activities
First installment was made for the new Engineering Building, EPIC, next to Grigg Hall, future home Civil and Elect Eng, the Dean thanked David Young and all others for their effort raising money. For the new motorsports lab, pulled together $4M, thanks to Jay Raja, Jim Cuttino. Landed $3M one time money, largest onetime budget ever. There have been several important purchases and upgrades were made over the past year including: New grey truck for Civil Engineering, New furniture in Smith, Mosaic upgrades, Upgrades to clean-room, Geo-tech lab, Fluid lab, Power eng gear, Bio-eng gear, etc.
GA will act on approving BS in Systems Engineering.
Enrollments moving 7.2 % up this semester, 16% grad enrollment increased, Undergrad 6%
The dean mentioned about the new student-owned computer initiative by Jack Stein.
Hiring of new faculty-staff will slow-down.
Proposal to Advanced Programs funding for recruiting grad students for female faculty may be available
Several challenges for the college: Design of new building, raising money for second installment, ABET, next Fall need to write a self study.
5. Software available to the students and an overview of new teaching tools
Jack Stein gave a brief presentation about software and teaching tools: mentioned about Steve Clarks initiative on clickers that help students interact with professors to ask questions and software availability through MSDN academic Alliance which are downloadable thru web.
Lorraine Stanton, FcTel demonstrated Second Life virtual reality software.
6. Other items of interest to faculty
Bob Johnson announced that Helene Hilger is selected for B. of America Teaching Award.
